Dentures

If you have multiple missing teeth, an option to help restore your occlusion and chewing ability is with dentures. At Leung Dental, we can make a denture that will allow you to smile and eat again!

What are Dentures?

There are various kinds of dentures available, but all share a common function: replacing teeth that have become loose or lost.

Dentures are a removable replacement for missing teeth and can be either full or partial oral appliances.

Natural, existing teeth may need to be prepared for dentures to fit properly. Sometimes, if the patient has severe bone loss and the teeth are not stable enough to retain the denture, these teeth may need to be extracted. In this case, the patient would need to wait for the bone to heal for 6-8 weeks before new dentures can be made to ensure a proper fit.

Immediate Dentures

Immediate dentures are available while a complete set of permanent dentures is being made, and can be immediately put in once the teeth are removed. Because your mouth is still healing following the teeth extractions, the immediate dentures will most likely require adjustments once healing takes place. Achieving optimal comfort and fit could take several appointments. After proper fit has been achieved the dentures may take some getting used to, but over time a patient’s smile is enhanced with this easy-to-care-for solution.

What to Expect

How to care for dentures

After you receive your dentures, you’ll be instructed on how to properly clean them to rid bacteria and other particle buildup. Make sure to handle your dentures carefully, and make sure not to bend or damage the appliance. It is important to clean your mouth and brush your dentures daily, and to soak the dentures overnight with a mild soaking solution.

Schedule regular check ups

Even with dentures, regular dental check ups are still necessary to have your dentures examined and professionally cleaned. Dr. Leung can also help make sure your dentures still have a proper fit to prevent slippage and discomfort. And with any check up, Dr. Leung will also examine your mouth and surrounding tissue to make sure it’s healthy.
