Porcelain
Bridges

Trying to fill that empty spot where you lost a tooth but you are unable to get a dental implant?

A bridge is a great alternative option for you!

What is a bridge?

Another way to replace lost teeth is to create a bridge consisting of one or multiple crowns spanning the gap between your remaining teeth.

This semi-permanent fixture is typically made of porcelain over metal, and fits over existing teeth. Bridges can solve the same problems as implants, and is an alternative option for patients, depending on their particular needs, circumstances, and sometimes due to health reasons.

You can expect 2 to 3 appointments for a bridge so that we can adjust and fit the bridge perfectly. If you're able to take care of the bridge well, a bridge can last for years.

YOU ARE A GOOD CANDIDATE FOR A BRIDGE IF:

  • You lost a tooth and both teeth on each side already have crowns

  • You have a complicated medical history and have trouble healing

  • You don't have enough bone for an implant and you're unable to get a bone graft due to medical history or other reasons. A bridge is a more aesthetic alternative treatment for you.

What to Expect

2 to 3 appointments

FIRST APPOINTMENT

We first will confirm the shade and color of the bridge that will be made to match the color of your natural teeth. Then, both teeth on each side of the missing tooth are fully anesthetized and are prepared for crowns. We are very meticulous and pay careful attention while preparing these teeth, as we need to create a bridge that has an easy path of insertion. We will then take an impression of the teeth, fabricate a temporary bridge, and temporarily cement this on while we wait for the final porcelain bridge to be made by our skilled dental lab technician. The next appointment will be in approximately two weeks.

SECOND-THIRD APPOINTMENTS

Depending on the complexity of the case, we may have you come in for a second appointment to try on the metal framework of the bridge. This is to ensure a perfect fit. We'll make sure with a dental x-ray and we'll also ensure that we have the proper tooth shade and color to match the rest of your teeth.

If we don't need the metal framework appointment, we will try in the final bridge and assess it for function, comfort, and aesthetic approval. We will take a dental x-ray to make sure it fits properly. If we move forward with the restoration, we will cement it with a permanent resin cement. We'll remove the excess cement and we will provide post-care instructions. It's important for you to take proper care of your new porcelain bridge and to clean and floss underneath as necessary!
